Hi,
Is there a great competition for direct mail designer jobs?
Is anyone here really earning a living out of this career?
I know about mklassen. Anyone else?
Any motivation for me? When I read the Awai sales letter about this career I really think big about it. I hope whatever is said in the letter is not hype. Please advice me if this career has great potentials.
Warm regards. |

as a working designer and an independent, i think it's important to know that your source of income will vary. although i can not claim to be making six figure incomes from direct mail design (not yet...smile) as advertised in the awai promotional materials, i am a working designer and very happy working from home. my work comes from a variety of design related projects...from traditional GD pieces, to direct mail to custom wedding invitations! i think what's important is to continue honing your skills and keep your mind open to however the opportunities present themselves to you...because the opps are definitely out there.
hope this helps...

I realize this is an old and stagnant thread but I had to comment.
Check your mailbox. Do you get much direct mail?
I get tons of it. I get at least a 6 to 8 inch stack every week. Sometimes a lot more.
That tells me there is plenty of work for designers out there. Some people make a lot of money working as graphic designers. The AWAI course teaches a sub-niche of that market. It's a huge sub-niche.
There's competition in every field. Get good and don't worry about the competition. There's plenty of work out there. You only need a few clients to pay the bills. A few more and you'll be making a great living. |
